Experiences
Dr. Asher Elbaz Multidisciplinary Designer, Researcher, and Lecturer I am a multidisciplinary designer and researcher operating at the intersection of architectural practice, phenomenology, and urban design. My work spans the trajectory from intimate interior environments to large-scale public installations, driven by a commitment to enhancing the "Urban Beauty" and the human experience within the built environment. With a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, my research focuses on the aesthetic and philosophical dimensions of urban spaces. My academic journey includes an M.A. in the History and Philosophy of Science and Ideas from Tel Aviv University, where I explored the necessity of critical discourse in architectural education—a theme that continues to inform my teaching. Since 2008, I have been a faculty member at HIT – Holon Institute of Technology, bridging the gap between theoretical research and design pedagogy. My professional practice gained significant recognition in 2014 after winning the national competition to design the iconic entrance sculptures for the city of Rishon Lezion. This milestone shifted my focus toward the public realm, where I now specialize in urban design, environmental sculpture, and the integration of social and emotional layers into civic spaces. My current work and publications investigate how "beauty" in the Israeli urban context can be defined not merely as an aesthetic preference, but as a vital component of social well-being and civic identity.
