Dr. Asher Elbaz is a designer, researcher, and lecturer whose work focuses on urban aesthetics, urban design, planning theory, and the phenomenology of place. He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and an M.A. in the History and Philosophy of Science and Ideas from Tel Aviv University. He has taught at HIT – Holon Institute of Technology since 2008 and currently serves as a faculty member in the Faculty of Design, connecting theoretical research, design pedagogy, and applied urban practice. His professional work ranges from interior environments to public-space interventions; in 2014, his proposal for the entrance element to the city of Rishon LeZion won first prize in an open design competition. His current research examines urban beauty as a multidimensional phenomenon involving formal-visual, cognitive-managerial, and emotional-experiential aspects, and explores how aesthetic knowledge can inform urban planning and design. His recent research has been published in the Journal of Planning Literature, Journal of Urban Design, and Cities.
