מקופלת בתמצית בשם הספר. אסא ניצל את המבנה הטופוגרפי של הגבעה, עליה משתרע האתר ויצר את '"דרך חטיבת גולני", כמוטיב מרכזי־רעיוני בתכנונו. כך, האתר תוכנן כדרך, אשר מצד אחד מתארת את דרכה של החטיבה ותולדותיה — והיא בעצם מחקה מסלול תנועת חיילים בקרב, העולה במעלה הגבעה ועד לפסגתה — אז מתגלים לעיננו, ניצבים דוממים ומרשימים, שבעה מוצבי ומיצבי תצוגה ותיעוד, כולם מבטון חשוף, בו מוטבעים קסדות הלוחמים. מהמיצב הראשון "מעבר הקשתות" ובהמשך הדרך, שלושה בונקרים, המכילים תצוגה ותיעוד היסטורי של החיל, כאשר במרכזו של אולם "יזכור", מוצב ארון הנופלים ובו תיק אישי המיוחד לכל חייל שנפל חלל. מיד ביציאה מאולם "יזכור", הוצבה "עמדת תצפית" מבטון, אחריה מתנשא, גבוה, גדול ומרשים, "מוצב החרמון", המזכיר את מוצב החרמון האמיתי. בתוך מנהרה שיצוקה בחלק הפנימי שלו, יצר האדריכל במחשבה המתעלה לרמת חזון, אשנב גדול בצורת טרפז, המעניק לצופה את התחושה ש"יש אור בקצה המנהרה" — תקווה ליום בו תפסק שפיכות הדמים ולא יתווספו יותר תיקי חללים, לאולם זה הנוצר את זיכרם. הצופה מתוך המנהרה שבמבנה "מוצב החרמון'" אל האור, רואה את "העץ של גולני" — המוצב השביעי, הסוגר והמסיים את מסלול הקרבות. אלא שמסלול זה אינו מסתיים באמת, לדאבוננו והאתר ממשיך להיות פעיל, לוחות הנופלים אשר בו, ממשיכים להתמלא בשמות והוא ממשיך ללוות אותנו, יחד עם הצורך להנציח ולזכור את אלה, שמסרו את נפשם בגבורה למעננו. הוא רלוונטי במיוחד בימים אלה, בהם יוצא הספר לאור ומצדיע גם לנופלים במלחמת "חרבות ברזל". -- כריכה אחורית תוכן עניינים אתר ההנצחה הוא סמל עבורנו,
