1968

Planning Stages of the Institute

In December 1968, a planning team worked on a preliminary plan to establish the Holon University Institute of Technology.
Two months later, an organizing committee was formed, which included representatives from industries (Israel Aerospace Industries, Israel Military Industries, electronics and machinery manufacturers), public figures, senior academic staff from institutions of higher education and research in Israel, and representatives from the Holon Municipality.

1969

Announcement of the Establishment of the Holon University Institute of Technology

On March 6, 1969, the establishment of the Holon University Institute of Technology was publicly announced.
The late Dr. Abraham Margalit became its first director. The institute’s name reflects its objectives – training engineers based on a combination of academic studies with practical experience in industry.

1970

The First Students

In 1970, approximately 100 students studied at the institute in three departments:
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering and Management. From 1969 to 1971, the institute operated as an independent academic and administrative unit, and from April 1, 1971, it received legal status as an Ottoman association.

1970

Implementation of an Additional Educational Objective

With the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, it was decided to include an additional educational objective – training academic teachers for the technological education system.
Following this trend, a division was established for preparing curricula and teaching aids for technological education, as well as a department for pedagogical research and evaluation.

First Class Graduation

In 1976, Class A at the institute completed its studies.

1977

Academic Sponsorship by a University

An academic sponsorship agreement was signed between the institute and Tel Aviv University, whereby the institute began awarding a Bachelor of Science degree in Technological Education (B.Sc.T.E) to graduates of the departments:
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Design.
The institute’s name was changed to “The Center for Technological Education, Holon,” and academic activity began in a new format: the academic structure was updated, study fields were added within the existing departments, and the Design Department was added.

Accreditation for Training Teachers in Technological Subjects

The Center for Technological Education was registered as a non-profit organization and was officially accredited to train teachers for teaching technological subjects and organizing in-service training for teachers, opening laboratories, workshops, and research in the field of technological education.
The institution awarded a graduate certificate in technological education and teaching certificates.

New Name for the Institut

The institute’s name was changed to “The Institute for Science, Technology and Arts – Holon.”

New Name for the Institute

The institute’s name was changed once again to
“Holon Academic Institute of Technology” and was registered as an independent non-profit organization.

This name appears in the records to this day.

Accreditation for a New Program

We received accreditation from the Council for Higher Education to award a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Recognition as an Independent Academic Institution

The institute became an independent academic institution for higher education accredited by the Council for Higher Education.

In 2004, we received accreditation from the Council for Higher Education to award a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in Technology Management.

The institute underwent a rebranding process and its name was changed to HIT – Holon Institute of Technology.

Announcement of a New Field Born at HIT

We received accreditation from the Council for Higher Education to award a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in Digital Technologies in Medicine, the first degree in Israel in the field of digital medicine that trains analysts of medical data.
The track is recognized as a pre-medical track and prepares its graduates to become a new type of physician after they complete their studies at medical schools and become technological physicians.
