We live in the age of the digital medicine revolution. Diagnostics and therapeutics, epidemiology, monitoring and imaging, have all been transformed by the technological breakthroughs of the 21st century.Today, with the revolution accelerated by the advent of AI, healthcare organizations realize that they must build a solid bridge between the two realms – technology and medicine.

Digital Medical Technologies at HIT

First and only program of its kind

Identifying the urgent need arising as novel technologies spread through the medical world, HIT established the innovative Digital Medical Technologies program – the first and only one of its kind in Israel, and one of very few in the world. Here students acquire in-depth acquaintance with both fields, essentially learning two different languages: medicine and technology.

The program provides students with a broad background in both technology and biomedicine: chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics and physiology alongside mathematics, statistics, computer programming, AI, data science and more. This basic curriculum is complemented by advanced courses on clinical worlds and IT in biomedical environments: medications in the digital age, epidemiology, machine learning, deep learning, medical imaging, NLP (Natural Language Processing), and medical big data.

Hands-on experience

The novel program draws the interest of innovative partners across the Israeli health industry, including innovation hubs, medical centers and research institutes. Through these partnerships, research collaborations are established, physicians and other professionals join our faculty, and students are exposed to real-world clinical challenges – addressing genuine medical challenges posed by partners in the Department’s 6 applied research labs.

Pre-Med Track

Unlike most Israeli Pre-Med programs, which focus on biology, our unique Pre-Med Track – part of the digital Medical Technologies program – emphasizes technology, data science and AI (in addition to the required Pre-Med courses).

Graduates of the Track are already sought by Israel’s medical schools, where they can attend a 4-year track for the MD degree. Alternately, they can work as certified medical data analysts – a profession now in great demand throughout the health industry.

Faculty

The program’s faculty includes senior academics alongside expert physicians and professionals from Israel’s leading medical institutions and healthcare industry.

Research

Based on the concept of University of Applied Science, the program’s research projects focus on applied research. Studies are conducted by students guided by faculty members in our 6 multidisciplinary labs: HEAL – HealthcarE AnaLytics, MADE – Medical Assistive Design & Engineering, Living Lab https://hitn.mipo.co.il/en/academic/digital-medical-technologies/#labs

Since the Program’s establishment dozens of projects have been completed, and some of their outcomes have been commercialized. Main products include medical devices incorporating AI and data technologies for better diagnosis and therapeutics, as well as AI-driven tools for detecting and monitoring at-risk populations.
