Visual communication is as ancient as human civilization – beginning with cave art more than 60,000 years ago and changing constantly with the technologies available in every era. Each tech revolution gives birth to a new field in visual communication: Web 1.0 gave rise to Interactive Design, Web 2.0 prompted Integrated Design, and today the advent of AI is challenging the field with its endless opportunities.
Having grown for 4 decades in HIT’s technological environment, the Faculty of Design naturally combines design with technology. Specifically, the Department of Visual Communication Design leads the Israeli scene in design for new media and digital products, immediately incorporating every technological innovation into its programs.
Thus, after introducing courses in interactive design as early as 2010, the B.Des.The curriculum went on to feature immersive design for AR and VR, and is currently bringing AI and its huge transformative impact into every class. The Department’s quick response to the needs of the new generation has generated a vast demand for its forward-looking study programs.
The Department’s technological orientation is complemented by a foundation of classic graphic design studies and a hands-on educational approach, to provide ultimate preparation for the 21st-century job market. Students can participate in special design clinics, producing inventive design solutions for real-world challenges presented by various organizations. Many of our students have garnered prestigious prizes for their original projects.
92% of our alumni find employment soon after graduation, with the vast majority working in the fields they studied, and more than 50% employed in Israel’s thriving high-tech sector. A substantial number of alumni have become leaders in their disciplines, gaining accolades and prizes worldwide.
The Department’s faculty consists of 140 lecturers, all of whom also work in industry in their respective professions, bringing their experience to bear in the classroom. Some of our faculty members are well-known international figures in their fields.
