The BSF–NEH program is one of the most competitive and prestigious funding frameworks supporting joint research between Israeli and U.S. scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

The funded project applies advanced artificial intelligence and natural language processing techniques to the large-scale analysis of Jewish textual traditions spanning nearly two millennia. Its goal is to better understand how knowledge, ideas, and intellectual traditions have been transmitted across communities, geographic regions, and historical periods.

The research is conducted in collaboration with leading scholars from Bar-Ilan University and Brown University, combining expertise in digital humanities and computational analysis.

Prof. Schler leads the technological aspects of the project, including the development of AI models capable of identifying citation patterns, mapping connections between texts, and reconstructing complex intellectual networks across vast textual corpora.
A key outcome of the project will be the development of advanced digital tools and an interactive platform enabling scholars to explore and visualize these networks, providing new insights into cultural and intellectual history.

By bridging artificial intelligence and the humanities, the project represents a significant advancement in digital humanities and highlights HIT’s role in innovative interdisciplinary research at the international level.
