The establishment of the lab was made possible thanks to a budget that was received from the Council for Higher Education following the reform in Academic English studies.

The laboratory is located at the Center for Student Advancement in the Dean of Students’ office and is aimed at accompanying students who have difficulty studying English, as well as other functions.

Prof. Eduard Yakubov, President of HIT said at the opening ceremony: "It is exciting, especially in these challenging days, to launch a laboratory that helps our students succeed and become educated in their English studies, which are so essential for their future employment, and for the demands of the international high-tech industry. Establishing of the laboratory was made possible thanks to the teamwork of HIT staff who worked with dedication and professionalism, thus proving once again our care and commitment to our students”

Dr. Limor Sahar-Inbar, Dean of Students: "The establishment of the joint laboratory is an impressive achievement for the Dean of Students; office, which takes care of the students' well-being and their needs through a wide range of resources. The collaboration with the English department allowed us to upgrade the laboratory for the students’ benefit. Thanks to this collaboration, we have created an advanced technological environment for a better learning experience. The name of the laboratory reflects this essence."

The Department of English Studies is part of the School of Multidisciplinary Studies and its purpose is to train the students to make full and professional use of the English language which is so required at every stage they will turn to in the industry or in advanced studies.

The reform in English studies is part of the Council for Higher Education’s internationalization project aimed at the development of academic work capabilities with institutions abroad both at the student level and the lecturer level.

Dr. Nava Shaked, Head of the School of Multidisciplinary Studies emphasizes that "within the multidisciplinary courses, we allow both A level and exempt students, to simultaneously take courses topics that are forefront of technology and science that are all held in the English language and their uniqueness is that they are also offered to students from partner universities in Europe who study online with The Israeli students. “This year, as part of the reform, we decided to go a step further and offer an additional service to both students and lecturers in developing their English skills with the help of a language promotion laboratory; Lingua-phonic Lab.

Dr. Olga Gopol, head of the English Department who came up with the vision of creating this laboratory, said: "We aspire to an advanced laboratory where lecturers and students can practice and improve conversation and dialogue skills with the help of software and technological study tools, and will be exposed to digital sources of information such as international Newspapers like the Jerusalem Post, New York Times, and more.

We also have a dream to establish a Debate Club and perhaps in the future to participate in national competitions."

Michal Zecharia, Director of the Center for Student Advancement: "Especially during this period of war, students must come to study at HIT, and this is why the name of the new laboratory is “The Laboratory for Language Advancement. The students will enjoy a pleasant and enabling space where they can also help each other to progress and succeed.
