Transferring patient information accurately during nursing shift changes in hospitals are critical to a patient’s wellbeing. It is at this ‘nexus’ when important details about the patients in the ward are passed on to the incoming nursing shift. Until now, information is transmitted orally or by a computer which is transported on a bulky cart and towed inside the ward. In practice, out of convenience, nurses pass the shift details on orally or on written notes.

In response to this need, a new collaboration between HEAL and the Nursing Division at the Tel Aviv Medical Center has resulted in an initiative to develop a dedicated application which would allow all pertinent information to be easily transferred to tablets – clearly, efficiently and conveniently – eliminating the need for manual annotations.

Dr. Tomas Karpati, Director of the Multidisciplinary Laboratory HEAL: “The importance of this development is, first and foremost, in streamlining and sharing data. But the potential of this app is not only data-sharing among nursing staff, but also gathering and presenting additional operational data which provides an overall picture of the patient at all administrative levels of the Nursing Department and the Hospital."
