Head of Center for Materials Engineering & Laboratory of Tribology, Department of Science, HIT Holon Institute of Technology

Lev Rapoport received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 from the Kishinev Politechnique Institute and his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1978 from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Moldavian Academy of Sciences (Kishinev). His R&D activities were devoted to different aspects of friction and wear of materials, in particular, coatings and thin films, deformation and fracture of surface layers, and effect of lubricants on friction wear and structure of surface layers. Professor Rapoport is the Head of the Center for Materials Engineering and the Laboratory of Tribology at the Holon Institute of Technology. Friction and wear research of nanomaterials is known both nationally and internationally. Friction and wear properties of fullerene-like nanoparticles were studied at first in the laboratory of Prof. Rapoport and the results were published in the "Nature" journal in 1997. Many applications of solid lubricant nanoparticles were developed. Last some years he studied the interaction between structure friction and wear. Prof. Rapoport is a principal investigator in several research grants sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Science, the Bi-national Israel-USA and Germany-Israel Funds. Prof. Rapoport is the author more than 100 publications. He is Vice-President of the Tribology Council in Israel.

Prof. Rapoport will speak at the 2019 STEMM Conference in the Nanotechnologies Session:

  • Effect of plastic deformation and damage development during friction of fcc metals and alloys in the conditions of boundary lubrication: a review
    (Session 9, Session 18)
