Prof. Renato Leão Rego Department of Architecture and Urbanism, State University of Maringá, Brazil

Dr. Rego was trained as an architect and urbanist (1990) and got his PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in 1994. He is a full professor at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá (State University of Maringá - UEM) and researcher (level 1) of the CNPq, the Brazilian National Council for Technological and Scientific Development. He is council member of the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF) and International Planning History Society (IPHS), and member of the editorial board of Planning Perspectives journal. He is the current IPHS webmaster. Dr. Rego has been Associate Research Fellow at the Centre for Iberian and Latin American Visual Studies (CILAVS), Birkbeck College, London, and Visiting Professor at the Center for Latin American Studies, University of Florida, USA, and Visiting Researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. His teaching has focused on modern architecture and town planning history, and his research interests concern the diffusion of foreign ideas on twentieth-century Brazil. He is currently working on transnational comparative studies, focusing on Brazilian and African new capital cities, particularly on Palmas (1989) and Abuja (1979). He has published widely on the adaptation of garden city idea in Brazil. He is the author of the books Ideias para novas cidades. Arquitetura e urbanismo no interior do Brasil do século XX [Ideas for new towns. Architecture and urbanism in twentieth-century Brazilian hinterlands; 2019] and As cidades plantdas. Os britânicos e a construção da paisagem do norte do Paraná [Planted towns. The British and the construction of northern Parana landscape; 2009], which focused on colonization schemes, new towns, regional planning and urban forms in Paraná State (British private settlements) and in the Amazon basin (governmental settlements).
