The conference is a joint initiative of the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) and the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) and serves as a platform for renowned experts from twenty countries to share major mathematical issues.

Today’s session was opened by Prof. Azimbay Sadullaev from the Faculty of Mathematics at NUUz and Vice-Chair of the conference.  He spoke about the importance of holding such an event at this time.

Prof. Eduard Yakubov, President of HIT, said: "In challenging times such as these, many institutions have canceled conferences due to the spread of COVID-19, but as the Presidents of two major scientific institutions such as the National University of Uzbekistan and HIT, we decided to go forward with this conference, in order to demonstrate our strong convictions about the importance of academic exchange in spite of the circumstances.  It is of utmost importance to provide an opportunity for exchange of ideas and sharing of information with the best minds and experts from twenty countries.

Prof. Yakubov continues: “This conference is yet another indication of the close relationship which has been developed between the institutions of higher education in Uzbekistan, including the National University of Uzbekistan, with the Holon Institute of Technology. This prestigious virtual gathering of leading researchers in the field will further expand our joint projects and curricula. With the support of EU programs such as Erasmus +, this conference will help us forge a common technological future for the benefit of the whole world”.

“The HIT President expressed his gratitude to the diplomatic corps and the governments of Israel and Uzbekistan. “I would especially like to thank the Minister of Higher Education of Uzbekistan, Mr. Inomjon Majidov, the incoming Ambassador of Israel to Uzbekistan, Ms.Zehavit Ben Hillel and the incoming Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Israel Ms. Firoza Mahmudova, who helped greatly in making this conference come to fruition.”

“It is a recognized fact that the tremendous developments in the fields of Digital, Cyber and are all reliant upon mathematics. So, too, is this conference’s hosts–the NUUz is an institution whose reputation in mathematics precedes it. “

“In 1994, I had the distinct privilege of participating in the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Zurich together with Prof. Shavkat Ayupov, Director of the Institute of Mathematics in the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. There we heard Prof. Efim Zalmanov, who is now a faculty member of the University of California San Diego and a recipient of the prestigious Fields Medal. Our friendship goes way back.”

“At HIT, we aim to train mathematicians who are specialize in many fields of knowledge, creating a new generation of mathematicians steeped in broader knowledge. Not by chance does HIT also stand for Humanity, Innovation, Technology, in addition to the Holon Institute of Technology.”

“I believe that innovation and technology improve humanity, and we are committed to advancing both our human as well as professional capital.”

“My special thanks to Prof. Avazjon Marakhimov, Rector of the NUUz, who responded to the initiative and together with us, led to the convening of this important event. Prof. Adir Pridor, Chairman of HIT’s Executive Committee, Prof. Vladimir Chilin from the National University of Uzbekistan, Prof. Mersaid Aripov, from the National University of Uzbekistan, Prof.Abdula Azamov, President of the Uzbek Mathematical Society, Prof. Ravshan Ashurov, Head of the Laboratory in the Institute of Mathematics at the Uzbekistan Academy of Science, Prof. Abdulaziz Artikbaev from Tashkent State Transport University, Prof. Koby Rubinstein from the Technion, Prof. David Shoikhet, Vice President of Academic Affairs at HIT, Prof. Anatoly Golberg, Head of the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science at HIT, Prof. Mark Agranovsky of the Faculty of Science at HIT and Dr. Michael Kroyter, Head of the Applied Mathematics Program in the Faculty of Science. at HIT.”

Prof. Marakhimov, conference Chair, said in his greeting that the fruitful and close cooperation with HIT began four years ago.  During that time frame, two international conferences were held and many joint projects are taking place.  “We are honored to host scientists from 20 countries today, and it shows that our scientific, technological and economic network is evolving. I hope that this conference is united under a single common goal --to educate future generations of mathematicians and enrich our heritage, as noted more than once by Uzbekistan President Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who said that the most important thing is knowledge and the greatest poverty is lack of education.

Marakhimov continues: “One of the main goals of Uzbekistan is to equip the future generation with knowledge, and I believe that this conference will help us leave such a legacy for our younger generation. I thank my colleagues from the Holon Institute of Technology, Prof. Pridor and Prof. Yakubov, as well as the Minister of Higher Education of Uzbekistan, who assisted and supported the organization of this conference”.

Israel's incoming Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Ms. Zehavit Ben Hillel, stated in her greetings that she was pleased to see the cooperation taking place between two top institutions of higher education from the two countries,  as reflected in the establishment of a first joint program for the Holon Institute of Technology and Uzbek National University in 2018. "Research is an important and vital tool, and I strongly believe in higher education," the ambassador said. "Everyone has the right to higher education and we must make it a reality”.

The incoming Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Israel, Ms. Feruza Mahmudova, greeted the guests and said that the world of mathematics is fascinating. In this time of global pandemic, humanity has had to learn how fragile everything is on the one hand, and on the other, how boundless progress is.

"In his speech last January, the President of Uzbekistan launched several science-related initiatives, and this year mathematics was declared a top priority. Uzbekistan has deep roots in mathematics and we work hard to preserve the heritage of our forebearers. I offer my greetings to all participants from the Holon Institute of Technology and the National University of Uzbekistan, as well as to those throughout the two countries and the whole world”.

The four speakers from HIT in the Mathematics conference and their respective subject include:

  • Prof. David Shoikhet, Vice President of Academic Affairs:  “ Resolvent method for holomorphic mappings and semigroups”
  • Prof. Anatoly Golberg, Head of the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science: " Nonlinear Beltrami equation "
  • Prof. Mark Agranovsky from the Faculty of Science: "Integral geometry on spheres: generalized Funk-Radon transforms "
