Bridges of digital medicine between Luxembourg and HIT

Senior officials from Luxembourg's health systems conducted a study tour at HIT, and were deeply impressed by the groundbreaking academic program of the 'Department of Digital Medical Technologies and its advanced collaborations with the Israeli health system.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct a study tour and locate topics for scientific collaboration in the field of digital medicine between HIT, the State of Israel and the research and health system of Luxembourg.

The delegation was received by the Institute's President, Prof. Eduard Yakubov, Dr. Refael Barkan, Founder of the Program and the Department of Digital Medical Technologies and Vice President of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Internationalization, Dr. Hadas Lewy, Head of Research and Development in the Department of Digital Medicine, and Dr. Boaz Tadmor from the Department of Digital Medical Technologies and former director of Beilinson Hospital and chairman of the Research Authority at Rabin Medical Center.

During the tour, members of the delegation from Luxembourg visited the LIVING LAB - a Homecare laboratory for remote diagnosis and treatment at the home environment. In this laboratory, clinical-technological studies, under the auspices of medical centers and health funds, are expected to take place using the environment closest to the patient's natural environment - the home.

The President of HIT, Prof. Eduard Yakubov, congratulated the members of the delegation and their desire to locate issues for future collaborations between elements in the Luxembourg medical system and HIT.

He emphasized the fact that HIT is considered a pioneer according to both Israeli and international scales, in the field of digital medicine and invited guests from Luxembourg to exchange professional knowledge in the fields of precise and digital medicine, and establish a framework for collaborations in the field, especially in light of the uniqueness of the Luxembourg medical system and the medical-technological Eco system that is built around it with its European neighbors.

Dr. Rafael Barkan reviewed the academic activities of the department, the uniqueness of the academic program and the fabric of its collaborations with the two major health funds and with leading medical centers in Israel and abroad.

"The department has chosen to focus on teaching and applied research on topics that are at the forefront of medical technologies and clinical challenges today and in the near future - telemedicine, medical replica data, AI in medicine, assistive technology and design and more." Said Dr.Barkan.

Prof. Ulf Nehrbass, director general of the Luxembourg National Institute of Health, expressed admiration and enthusiasm for the capabilities and actual collaborations presented on the tour, and expressed hope for a reciprocal visit and finding extensive avenues for mutual enrichment and cooperation.

The delegation from Luxembourg included Dr. Romain Martin - a senior coordinator on behalf of the Luxembourg government; Dr. Gregor Baertz - President of the Board of the National Institutes of Health; Prof. Ulf Nehrbass - Director General of the Institute; Dr. Thomas Dantzer - Chief Strategy Officer at the Ministry of Health; Dr. Carole Bruckler - Head of Digital Health Technologies; Mr. Christian Oberle - President of the Luxembourg National Health Fund; Mr. Daniel Schneider - Partner at the Tenzing Foundation; and Mrs. Dominic Hansen, Head of the Public and Institutional Relations.
