Lifetime Achievement Award and Honorary Degrees at 2019 Graduation Ceremony

 

As traditional part of HIT's annual Graduation Ceremony, a Lifetime Achievement Award and Honorary Degrees were bestowed upon key figures in Israeli academy, industry and society.

Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Mr. Uzia Galil.

Mr. Uzia Galil is considered one of the key founders of the Israeli Hi-Tech industry 

 

An excerpt from the committee's justification for awarding the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Uzia Galil:

Mr. Uzia Galil immigrated alone to the State of Israel in 1941, at the age of 16, following the Bucharest pogrom.

 

In 1947, he graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technion and in 1953, he obtained his master degree from the Purdue University, USA. Committed to creating a knowledge-based industry, he initiated and promoted practical collaborations between the academia and the industry. In 1962, he founded "Elron", Israel's first high-tech company.

 

Over the years, "Elron" became an "Operating Holding company"; home to some crucial players in the international high-tech industry market. 


Over the recent years, he is devoted to advancing the fields of medical information systems and personalized medicine.


Mr. Uzia Galil's achievements are in line with HIT's vision: to be a unique Israeli higher education institution that combines dynamic academic teaching, applied research, and in  close collaborations with the industry and the Israeli society.

Honorary Degree was presented to Mr. Avraham Kuznitsky. Founder and Chairman of "Minrav Group"


In recognition of his vision and enduring contribution to the field of education, as well as in recognition of his leadership in the fields of real estate and building development. 

 

An excerpt from the committee's justification for awarding the honorary degree:

Mr. Avraham Kuznitsky’s achievements have turned the "Minrav Group" into a source of national pride and inspiration in Israel and abroad. His values and actions reflect HIT's vision as an academic institution that aspires to excellence, leadership and social commitment.

Honorary Degree was presented to Prof. Sarit Kraus ,Department of Computer Science, Bar-Ilan University, EMET Prize laureate, 2010.


In recognition of her groundbreaking and world-acclaimed research in the fields of artificial intelligence and multi-agent systems. 

 

An excerpt from the committee's justification for awarding the honorary degree:

Prof. Sarit Kraus' research and pioneering development, in the area of communication between intelligent agents and human beings, have significantly impacted Israel’s high-tech industry as a whole, as well as generations of higher-education students and researchers.


Prof. Sarit Kraus embodies HIT's values and vision which combines quality research, innovative spirit, and contribution to the community.

Honorary Degree was presented to IMPACT! Scholarship Program founded the FIDF organization


In recognition of this outstanding and unique scholarship initiative in making the dream of higher education accessible .to tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers, while imparting them with values of social commitment and mutual responsibility.

 

An excerpt from the committee's justification for awarding the Honorary degree:

By making higher-education accessible to discharged soldiers, the IMPACT! Scholarship Program enables these latter to fulfil their potential, while strengthening the bonds between the state and society.

 

HIT thus expresses its everlasting gratitude to the FIDF for funding the undergraduate studies of low socioeconomic backgrounds' combat and combat support soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

During the ceremony Prof. Avaz Marakhimov, Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) was awarded a special Certificate of Appreciation from HIT for his support of the ongoing collaborations  between HIT and NUUz in research, joint programs, conferences, E-Learning and joint ventures in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.
