Today concludes the four-day joint HIT – NUUz conference "At the Front of Mathematics and Computer Science 2020."

The conference is a joint initiative between the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) and the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) and served as a platform to share knowledge from the world of mathematics among renowned experts from twenty countries.

In light of Covid-19, the conference was held online, but despite the physical distance, it was deemed by participants to have been extremely productive, and the first of hopefully many such virtual conferences to follow.

Toround up the week, we asked HIT’s participants to share their impressions.

Prof. Eduard Yakubov, President of HIT:
“Four days of the conference came to an end today and I believe I am not alone in declaring it a huge success.
In light of the excellence of the lectures presented, the Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan, Prof. Avazjon Marakhimov and I decided to publish a Conference Book featuring the presentations made this week by the mathematics and computer science scholars through the Springer Book Publishing Center.

We are also working on organizing a virtual joint seminar in the fields of mathematics, computer science, robotics, AI, IoT, autonomous vehicles and more.

Furthermore, we are considering the creation of a series of joint mini-lecturesto be given by HIT and NUUz faculty members.
Finally, we plan to organize a similar conference again next year.
This conference taught us that geographical distance is no longer relevant today and I see the online methods as another means of deepening the relationship between us.

To conclude, I would like to thank the Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan, Prof. Marakhimov, Chair of the Conference, Prof. Azimbay Sadullaevfrom the Faculty of Mathematics at the National University of Uzbekistan, the Vice-Chair of the Conference and Prof. David Shoikhet, Vice President of Academic Affairs at HIT, for their important role in organizing this special conference and to all the participants.”

Prof. David Shoikhet, Vice President of Academic Affairs at HIT:
"The conference was at a very high level. I believe that despitethe limitations of ZOOM technology, itallowed us to organize a fruitful multi-participant week-long scientific gathering with the National University of Uzbekistan. It was a great achievement, a conclusion shared by all participants. We wish to make this conference an annual tradition and hope that we will succeed in doing so. The goal is to make this conference not only bi-national but international.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank the organizers of this conferenceon behalf of HIT - Prof. Edward Yakubov, President, Dr. Michael Kroyter, Head of the Applied Mathematics Program in the Faculty of Science and Ms. Tony Levy, in charge of External Relations in the Office of the President.

Also, to the organizers from Uzbekistan - Prof. Marakhimov, Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan and Chair of the Conference, Prof. Sadullaev from the Faculty of Mathematics in the National University of Uzbekistan and Vice-Chair of the Conference and to Prof. Saburov, Vice-Rector and Dean of the Joint University.”

Prof. Anatoly Golberg, Head of the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science:
“The conference was a great success and the lectures in mathematics and computer science were of the highest level.  In these current challenging times, when it is not possible to attend and meet with overseas colleaguesface-to-face, online conferences make it possible to follow the latest developments in these highly dynamic areas. Personally, I have had the opportunity to see people I have not met in years and this is undoubtedly a significant vehicle for strengthening ties with our colleagues abroad.
This conference is the second online conference I attended recently.  There is no doubt that these events successfully replace the regular conferences and contribute to the fortifying links between HIT and our partners.”

Prof. Mark agranovsky from the Faculty of Science
"This conference was especially significant since it has been impossible to meet personally and keep in touch with our colleagues. There were outstanding lectures and the same level of excellence was achieved as the traditional conference model.”

Dr. Michael Kroyter, Head of the Applied Mathematics Program in the Faculty of Science:
"This past week wasproof that conferences can be successful even in this era. I was happy to meet our friends and partners from Uzbekistan and from othercountries again, and to have the opportunity to witness first-hand the advances in the field.”
