Young Linguists

Learning through Interactive Gamification

* This course will not be offered in 2021-2 *

In this course students create a platform of language learning for children based on gaming technologies. They first learn about language acquisition and related technologies. Then they work in multidisciplinary teams of students from various departments, implementing multimodal UE with gamified features, on which they work together with elementary school kids. Collaborating with an elementary school in Holon, our students consult the principal, teachers and pedagogical advisors, who participate in the planning of the gaming projects. The tech-design platforms that students create make the experience of learning English sheer fun for kids!

Stories from the previous class

Twenty students from various faculties at HIT participated in the class of 2018-19. After getting basic knowledge in linguistics they set out to work in teams together with fifth-grade kids.

Together with the kids of Goldtec Elementary School in Holon, students designed computer games for English learning. The younger generation gave their input on what interests them and about their needs in relation to learning English.
