As Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, former Chief Rabbi of Israel, Israel Prize Laureate for Lifetime Achievement, and many more distinctions, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau is widely known and admired for his ability to make the wisdom of Judaism and Torah relevant to broad sectors of society, in Israel and around the world.


Rabbi Lau's tireless work to promote tolerance and harmony between peoples and religions has improved inter-communal relations in Israel and the Diaspora, as well as ecclesiastic interactions between the different faiths.


A Holocaust survivor himself, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau’s actions pay tribute to the legacy of European Jewry while emphasizing the moral responsibility for the wellbeing of the survivors.


For all of the above HIT is granting him a Lifetime Achievement Award.
