Introduction to Petri Nets: theory and applications
00:00 30-04-2006
The purpose of our report is to argue expediency, an addition to
traditional courses on Finite Automata or Finite State Machines (FA/FSM),
a new course “Introduction to Petri Nets: theory and applications“. This course is necessary for study the principles of adequate modeling of many advanced distributed systems. Behavior of the systems is based on Parallel (Concurrent) and Communicating (Interacting) processes. A comparison between Petri Net models (PN) and such well-known models as (FA/FSM) is made. The essential advantages PN over FSM are consequently enumerated. Our examples demonstrate the fact: Class of the PN-models is an extension class of the FSM- models.
Comments to the Syllabus for the proposed lecture course are discussed.
Till now we observe trends to permanent progress and extension in area of PN: its theory, tools and application fields. It explains use a lot of courses on PN in many colleges and universities all over the world (USA, Europe, Australia etc.).
Thus, such courses on PN are actual for universities and colleges of Israel.
