Geometry, Physics, and Yang Mills equations

In the first part of the talk I will focus on the evolution of our view of geometry, relativity, and gravity. In particular, I will explain how at the time of Galileo these three concept were considered to be essentially independent whereas now they are seen to be strongly interrelated. In the second part of the talk I will discuss a specific geometric model of a physical system subject only to gravity and weak nuclear forces. The model yields a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. I will describe the qualitative behavior of solutions of these equations and the implications on the geometry of spacetime.
