COLLABORATIVE URBANISM

Head of Group: Dr. Dror K. Levi

The Research team aims to explore the relationship between the academia and the city, using
various methodologies for research and intervention in the city. Through collaboration with residents, users and occupiers of the city as well as municipal institutions, the research group will seek to develop integrated forms of knowledge of the city and innovative tools and ideas for action
This research stems from a growing need to overcome an existing gap between "professional
knowledge” and "everyday” or "common knowledge” by providing a new platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among them. In this specific laboratory, the aim is to explore how design students can channel their knowledge and expertise to the benefit of the city, and how the city can channel its various resources to the benefit of the students.
The research team will explore different aspects of city life, including physical, social, economic and natural infrastructures of the city, and the points in which academia can intervene and contribute to these infrastructures. Special attention will be given to the social fabric of the city – its different communities and types of users, and the ways in which new platforms for interaction and engagement can be generated among them, and between them and the academic environment situated within the city.
