Idea/problem/context
The main idea is to control the shower with the singing.
Shower is a relaxing, daily activity. It includes interaction between the shower and the flowing water, which many of us accompany with singing.
Why do people sing in the shower? There are many explanations:
Confidence, better acoustics, and the liberating feeling of being alone.
So it makes sense to use this act to create a new experience -The Singing Shower.
We chose to create a direct correlation between the strength/happiness of the singing to the amount of water.
Loud singing - Strong flow
Quiet singing - Weak flow
If you stop singing for more than a few second the water stops.

What it is
The Singing Shower is a regular shower that has no faucet handle. Instead, it has a microphone hidden behind a drain on the wall that receives your voice/singing and turns the water on according to the loudness of your singing.

How it works
The input is received via a microphone in the shower. This signal runs through an electronic circuit where it is amplified and averaged. The moving average is used to control a mechanical device that can regulate the strength of the water flow. We use the Arduino electronics platform for interfacing with the motor that opens the faucet and make it move smoothly and respond quickly.

These pictues were taken in the course final presentation in the Garage Geeks' garage. Lots of people came to try out the Singing Shower and enjoyed the innovative idea.

Value/potential
The singing shower is very fun and can even be useful:, you won't have to drag your children and convince them to shower any more, and they probably wouldn't want to get out.
