The Doorss
Interaction Design course on H.I.T
August 2007

Idea/problem/context
Door-Knocking has been used as a primary communicational tool for thousands of years. As a code of sounds it allows to keep the separation between the "inside" and the "outside".There are three participants in the Door-Knocking situation: The knocker, the tenant and… the door - as a membrane for immediate & simple messages.Currently the knocking transfers information about the knocker but not about the tenant. In our project we gave the door an active & surprising role: the door reacts to the knocking and creates a sound, affected by the intensity and the rhythm of the knocking. The sound is being chosen by the tenant and so the knocker learns about the tenant. The doors (sounds) we presented in the exhibition were: door bell, barking door & echo door

What it is

a small device that attaches to the houses' Door and replace the small bazzer's button,
no more indecision, just knock on the door and be suprise of the outcome.

How it works

We created a door which is sensitive to vibrations.
By knoking on the door a program translate the input and play a sound.
The sound is chosen by the house owner.

Workshop

We designed a foldable door, easy to move and carry, spacially for the exhibition.

The Exhibition

As part of exhibition, I developed three Doors to demonstrate the concept: Barking Door, Bell door &echo door..

Here we demonstrate the doors

;

Value/potential
The door mechanism can be down size into a small 5*5cm box which cligs to your door.
By plug in it to the Pc, you can install any sound loop you would like to play to your expected and Unexpected visitors.
