Expanding HIT's collaborations in Britain and launching CARE-UK

Dr. Refael Barkan, head of HIT's R&D and External Relations Authority, had recently returned from Britain, following a successful visit as part of IAS Fellowship at Warwick University, during which expansion of academic and research collaborations between HIT and leading British universities were agreed upon.

The visit focused mainly on expanding HIT's and Maccabi Health Services' -CARE international research center's activities in the UK. This unique center deals with forming and planning technological and designed solutions for the challenges that face the elderly population and its care takers.

The basis of CARE's activities in the UK – CARE-UK - is led by Warwick University, which was joined by researches from other universities: Kent, Coventry, Oxford-Brooks and UCL. During the meetings and workshops it was agreed that two research proposals will be submitted under CARE-UK: one to a national British research fund and the other under Horizon-2020 in collaboration with other European institutions.

In addition, in a meeting that was held at Coventry University with NHS's innovations center, it was mutually agreed that work teams will be set in order to formulate and define the nature of collaboration in various CARE projects throughout the UK.
