Prime Directives

The Prime Directives of HIT - Holon Institute of Technology:

Encouragement and Fostering of Research

HIT's Directorate assigns great importance to the expansion and deepening of academic research activities and believes that excellent teaching is not possible without updated and continuous academic research.

Implementation

To achieve this, the Institute invests in several directions:
  • Practical research.
  • Building of laboratories and research centers.
  • ncouraging interdisciplinary research.
  • Absorbing research-oriented academic staff.
  • Integrating students into active research..

The Desired Outcomes

The facilitation of research activities and collaboration between the different parties serves as the basis for the development of a broad, solid research infrastructure, which can lead to innovativeness, creativity and academic and social development.

Quality and Excellence in Teaching

Our lecturers should excel in teaching in order to bring each and every one of our students to maximal fulfillment of his/her capacities. Excellent teaching is prerequisite to significant learning and achievement in academic studies by the students.

Implementation

Fostering the teaching staff and creating a supportive environment promotes excellence in academic instruction by means of continuous guidance, mentoring and counseling for improvement. We aspire toward the informed utilization of teaching technologies in order to raise the effectiveness of both teaching and learning.

The Desired Outcomes

The improvement of teaching quality at the Institute should have a positive and substantial impact on student achievements in the course of their studies and should equip them with the right tools to reach high professional level in the future.

The Development of Study Programs in the Sciences, Engineering, Design and Management, and Their Combinations through Practical Experience in Project Development

HIT's Directorate hopes to develop and broaden the fields of study in engineering, design, sciences and management, to enable the students to experience the practical execution of venture projects and to significantly increase the number of study programs in order to provide the best possible answers to the needs of the Israeli society and economy.

Implementation

HIT is working toward offering: bi-departmental programs; programs for outstanding students; special study programs for students in regular military service in the I.D.F.'s technological units; and more Masters (with and without thesis submission) and Doctoral degrees. Likewise, the Institute will promote new fields of knowledge in response to the existing and emerging needs of Israeli society.

The Desired Outcomes

The development of these new areas of study would enhance the Institute's position as a forward-looking professional and academic institution dealing in upcoming fields that are, as yet, less familiar in Israel and based on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches.

Enhancing the Connection between the Institute's Faculties

HIT's Directorate sees the uniqueness of the Holon Institute of Technology in its ability to combine different academic fields, such as: design, engineering, science, management and learning technologies in order to create stronger links and synergy between the different faculties.

Implementation

To create shared courses, study programs and projects for our students and to conduct joint activities with lecturers from various faculties.

The Desired Outcomes

Placing the emphasis on interdisciplinary combinations will distinguish the Institute and brand it as a synergistic academic institution which integrates engineering, science, design and management. This uniqueness should grant our graduates the necessary tools and skills to assist them in making their way after graduation.

Tightening the Bonds between Academia and Industry

HIT's Directorate is interested in tightening the bonds between the Institute and industry in order to keep abreast of the newest developments, to better prepare our students for industry and to put theoretical studies to practical use.

Implementation

To strengthen the bonds between industry and academia, joint activities and projects are conducted:
  • Practical research is done to encourage connections between the Institute and industry.
  • The HIT curriculum is regularly updated according to industrial needs.
  • The guidance and execution of final projects are based on industrial needs.
  • The Institute encourages and assists its students and graduates in finding jobs by directing them to suitable places offering employment.
  • Lecturers from industry are integrated into HIT's teaching staff.
  • There are special study programs and supplementary studies for industrial and I.D.F. personnel (diploma studies).
  • Conferences and seminars are organized and held.

The Desired Outcomes

Cooperation with various industries, and especially with the technological industries in Israel, with emphasis on research, should play a pivotal role in the Institute's growth in the forthcoming years and give it an advantage as an up-to-date and vital center for the research and creativity in demand.

Expansion of the Relations with the City of Holon

HIT's Directorate assigns great importance to the connection between HIT and the City of Holon.

Implementation

We shall act to foster a tight synergy between the city of Holon and HIT by opening the Institute to local residents and the surrounding community. The Institute will promote connections with the City of Holon by relating to the local culture and art centers, the municipal education system and the local commercial and industrial centers in Holon.

The Desired Outcomes

These connections should enable mutual productivity for both HIT and Holon and should facilitate the development of the Institute and its integration into the society within which it operates.

Fostering the Institute's Spirit of Uniqueness

HIT's Directorate fosters the uniqueness of its academic staff, administrative personnel and students by creating a 'warm' homey atmosphere for all those who join HIT. This sensation stems from the atmosphere of openness and transparency permeating the Institute and its image.

Implementation

We shall continue to foster this feeling by emphasizing the provision of personal attention, quality academic and administrative services and the creation of a steady, homey campus environment.

The Desired Outcomes

Institute's members should become part of the community offering joint creation and a lively social experience.

Strengthening the Bonds with the Community

HIT's Directorate considers one of its major goals to be the support of student adherence to social values, no less important than their training as gifted professionals in their fields.

Implementation

Our students and staff should become partners in various social projects to promote excellence among local youth, as well as implementing projects to assist the weak populations and also to provide aid to the nearby community. The Institute strives toward this goal by developing closer relationships with the local residents and associations operating in the City of Holon, as well as with groups of citizens and associations across Israel.

The Desired Outcomes

Community involvement should help the teachers to develop greater social awareness. In addition, it should enable the members of the community to have a glimpse at what is happening at HIT, thus contributing to its image and visibility.

Development of Physical Infrastructures and Visibility of HIT

HIT's Directorate is constantly laboring toward improvement of the physical conditions.

The Desired Outcomes

Any person entering the Institute should feel that staying and learning on campus is more pleasant, while guests from outside should be impressed by the special quality of the Institute's image; this should make HIT's branding and distinction from other academic institutions much easier.
