MORE THAN A DECADE OF QUANTUM COMPUTATION
00:00 23-01-2007
Quantum computing has been an extremely active field over the past decade, with the surprising promise that computers based on quantum mechanics will be able to perform tasks that are
essentially impossible for classical computers. I will survey the
main theoretical ideas underlying this area, with emphasis on teleportation, the quantum Fourier transform, and, if time permits, the important notion of quantum error correction and the intriguing connection to the old problem of the transition between quantum and
classical physics. I will assume zero background in computer
science or quantum information science.
