LOCALISED WAVES IN BOSE-EINSTEIN CONDENSATES
00:00 14-11-2006
Solitons, which is a universal phenomenon reappearing
constantly in the most diverse research fields, will be discussed in a context of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) observed in dilute atomic gases. The unprecedented level of control easily achievable in the table top experiments with atomic BECs shines new light on many different phenomena associated with localised waves. I will overview recent developments in the field including collapse of attractive condensates, solitons and soliton train formations and erasing of higher order nonlinearities. The latter affects curious- ly the dynamics of soliton motion and of binary collisions.
